AVI8ORS TO PERFORM
BENEFIT CONCERT FOR HEARTLAND HONOR FLIGHT
The AVI8ORS Ensemble will
perform a benefit concert to raise funds for Heartland Honor Flight. Proceeds from
the performance will provide air and ground transportation to Washington DC for
WWII veterans and terminally ill veterans wishing to visit the WWII Memorial and other
memorials there.
The event, dubbed “On a Wing
and a Prayer”, will be held at 7:30 pm on Tuesday April 29th, 2008
at The Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha. This modern 2000 seat facility
is located at 1200 Douglas Street and has full handicap access. With good
attendance, more than $30,000 will be raised for the cause.
Honor Flight is a nationwide non-profit
organization created to deliver veterans to the memorials built in their
honor. Top priority is given to the senior
veterans – WWII survivors along with those other veterans that may be
terminally ill. Heartland Honor Flight is a sub group dedicated to veterans of
Nebraska and Eastern Iowa. The first Heartland Honor Flight is scheduled to
depart on May 21, 2008. Over 300 veterans are now signed up for the trip, so
planning for several flights is underway.
This event was jump started when
Bob Moser of The AVI8ORS won one of the Channel 6 “Pay It Forward” grants
created by Tracy Madden of WOWT. The event venue has been fully sponsored by
Humana Marketpoint and The AVI8ORS’ appearance has been completely underwritten
by the generosity The Hawks Foundation of Omaha. With the entire concert costs
covered, all ticket sales will directly fund the Heartland Honor Flight.
In addition to the AVI8ORS
music, a guest speaker and other special visitors will soon be announced.
Malorie Maddox, anchor for WOWT’s - Live at Daybreak will act as emcee for the
evening.
The AVI8ORS Ensemble is a
popular Omaha based musical group which performs the music of the WWII era in
USO show style, using the original melodies and harmonies of the 1940s. Since
1999, they have performed for audiences all over the US and were ultimately honored
by performing for the WWII Memorial dedication in DC.
Called a "high quality
act" by critics, the group blends subtle choreography and dialog with
their music. Group members perform in authentic World War II uniforms, which
add the visuals to complement the vintage sounds.
"Ours is a very
patriotic show with rich harmonies and war-era music. We’re obviously excited
to share our performance with people who’ve dedicated their lives to ensuring our
freedom and security," said the group’s director, Bob Moser. "The
group’s repertoire consists of about 85 songs from the 30s and 40s. These are
joyful, moving, sentimental and sometimes silly tunes that characterize a love
of life and country," Moser said.
